World Language

If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his own language, that goes to his heart.
~ Nelson Mandela

To have another language is to possess a second soul.
~ Charlemagne

Students who select a World Language do so in order to develop a level of functional proficiency in their chosen language, and to acquire many specific competencies listed within individual course descriptions. It is expected that this knowledge will significantly increase their understanding and appreciation of other cultures. Courses in the World Language Department encourage students to reach proficiency.
